AKWA IBOM: Gov. Udom Emmanuel devotes largest Chunk of 2021 Budget to Education

Out of a total outlay of N485. 652 bn draft budget for 2021 presented before the Akwa Ibom house of assembly by the Governor, Deacon Udom Emmanuel, a whooping N267. 557 re-presenting 61%, has been allotted economic sector of which education is to gulp the highest.

According to him, other sectoral allocations are as follows: administration- N100.537 bn (23%), law and justice- N9.419 bn (2%), regional – N1.235 bn (0.3%) and last but not the least, social – N57.423 bn (18.2%).

The 2021 budget, Udom said is  predicated on oil benchmark of $40 per barrel at 1.86 billions barrel production per day with N308 exchanging for $1.

With the recurrent expenditure at N158.403 bn and capital expenses pegged at N226.96 and consolidated revenue of N50.285 bn, the governor hoped to actualize the vision of driving the state out the wood of dependence on civil service to industrialized hub.

The governor explained that the decision to give education the pride of place through training and retraining of civil servants as key component of his completion agenda.

Present at the presentation were deputy governor, Moses Ekpo, past state governors and a cross section of Akwa Ibom people the budget implementation is hoped to benefit as Governor Udom Emmanuel believed.

Accepting the budget after motion was duly moved and seconded, the speaker, Hon. Aniekan Bassey applauded the governor for its timely presentation and promised to give the 2021 budget accelerated hearing.
