Anambra State Maize Farmers Association has warned its members to resist any attempt to be part of any agricultural project not support by the state government.
The farmers reaction came as result of a group led by the National Vice President of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Chief Daniel Obiora Okafor which held an interactive session with farmers at the ADP Headquarters and requesting farmers to submit their names and farm locations to enable them access loans and grants from a group based in the united States of America.
The group also requested the farmers to plant their maize from August while they await the loan package which would come through individuals based in the United Stated and working in collaboration with the executive of the AFAN.
The Chairman Maize Growers Association of Nigeria, Anambra State Chapter,Christ Obiefuna who stated this in an interview Daily Champion, yesterday. said farmers in the state would not likely be submitting themselves to shame loans and projects that the Anambra State Government was not be part of, adding that doing so would mean undermining the effort of the state government at developing agriculture in the state.
Obiefuna said there is no doubt that the promise of such loans in which the Anambra State government was not part of would be fraudulent and warned Maize farmers to resist any attempt to be swindled.
The maize farmers chairman urged maize farmers to start early to plant their maize instead of waiting till August pointing out that maize planted early does well and produces more yield.
“We do not trust the group and their loans. Maize farmers will not be part of any grant which the state government is not part of because it could be fraudulent. I warn maize farmers to start now to plant their maize instead of waiting till August”, Obiefuna said.
