AMAECHI PERCY ONYEJEKWE, Awka

Traders in Nkwo Nnewi main market have deserted the place following the killing of some police officers by members of the IPOB who staged a protest March against the 2019 elections in the market.

The Market which used to be a beehive of activities has been its skeletal self since November 23, 2018 when the members of the outlawed IPOB killed some police men who came to disperse them in the market.

Following the killings the Anambra State police Command said it has made some arrest in connection with the killing of the policemen. But traders still gripped with fear think that they might be arrested in connection with the crime if they came back early to do business in the market.

Affected sections of the market included F Line where the killing allegedly took place, Old and new machine parts,New and old Auto parts markets among others.

The police on Sunday assured the people of Anambra State of their safety despite the killings and said it would continue to protect lives and property of every Nigerian resident in the state.

DCP Jimoh Moshood who briefed the Press in Awka on Sunday, November 25, 2018 said the police would not tolerate violence in any form and assured the people of their safety pointing out that those arrested in connection with the IPOB killings would be arraigned in court under the Terrorist Act 2013. He urged Nigerians to be law abiding and to go about their normal businesses.
